The EADS CASA C-295 is a modern turboprop short-to-medium range transport aircraft in an upper-wing configuration with a tricycle-retractable landing gear. The aircraft was flown in 1997, and its production took off in 1999 and continues. By the end of 2017, 163 aircraft of this type had been built. Propulsion - in the C-295M version - is provided by two Pratt and Whitney Canada PW127G turboprop engines, each with 2645 horsepower. The unit cost of the aircraft is estimated at $28million according to 2013 prices.
The EADS CASA C-295 was built as a development of the C-235 aircraft. Compared to its predecessor, its aerodynamic characteristics were improved, minimally modified avionics were used, and most importantly - different engines were used as the propulsion unit. All these changes led to a significant increase in flight range, weight of the transported cargo and maximum speed. In the course of production, several development versions were created, including: C-295M (military transport version), C-295 MPA (maritime patrol version) or C-295 SAR (search and rescue aircraft). The C-295 aircraft is considered one of the best in its class and has undoubtedly enjoyed considerable commercial success. One of its users is the Polish Air Force, which currently operates 16 machines of this type.
