The T-34 Big Wind is a Hungarian tracked specialist fire truck that was developed in 1990. The length of its hull was about 6.1 m and the width of the order of 3 meters. The drive was probably provided by a single 500 HP W-2-34 engine. The vehicle had no permanent armament.
The T-34 Big Wind was developed in the Hungarian MB Drilling plant on the basis of the T-34/85 tank chassis obtained from Hungarian surplus and two turbofan engines used in MiG-21 fighters. Such an unusual combination of basic construction elements resulted from economic reasons, but also from the tasks for which the new car was designed. Well, the T-34 Big Wind was to be used to extinguish particularly difficult and dangerous fires, in particular burning oil wells. Such a task required the supply of extinguishing substance to the flame in a very large amount in a short time. For this reason, the redesigned jet engines were placed on a rotating platform and acted as water cannons. They worked very well in this role, because they were able to throw up to 830 liters of water per second! What's more, the use of the T-34 hull allowed to get close to the source of the fire at a relatively short distance and ensured safe work for the crew. It was used with great success during the firefighting of oil wells set on fire by Iraqi troops during the First Gulf War of 1990-1991.
Super-Glue is required for gluing. It is quite easy to assemble!
